Clothes Swap

Last night I attended a clothing swap at Sarah‘s.  It was not what I expected.  I was picturing a cross between a garage sale and and thrift store, which in essence it was, but it was so fun.  We got there, set up the stuff we wanted to part with and dug through others for stuff we wanted to buy or trade.  Let me tell you, I made out pretty well.  My winnings:

Banana Republic white eyelet button down shirt – $3

Pink tweed clutch with bronze strap – trade for some earrings I’d made

White skirt with ribbon lining – $1

Mother and Son link necklace with silver pendant – trade for a bird necklace I’d made

Vintage brooch earrings – free cause they need a little fixing

Pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans – free.  What?  That’s right, free.

Total cost: $4

I got rid of:

AE rose bud shirt from college – $1.  (I love this shirt, but when boxy went out of style, it was time to give it up.  A girl a bit shorter than myself got it, so the boxiness shouldn’t be an issue.)

Turquoise J Crew Polo – $1

AE Jeans – $1

Earrings I made – $1

Purple skirt I got as a hand me down from Ashley – $1 (is it bad I made a profit?)

Tree necklace I made – $1

And I gave away three more pairs of earrings, the bird necklace, a silver pendant necklace…maybe a beaded one, I can’t remember, that I’d made.

Total earnings: $5

I came out better than when I went in.  And, Sarah is taking the remaining stuff to Goodwill, so I didn’t have to haul the stuff that didn’t go home with me.  Yay!

Also, I learned that my jewelry is liked by the general population…toying with an Etsy store idea.  The problem is narrowing down what I would put in it.  Maybe I won’t narrow it down.  Maybe I’ll be a jack of all trades.  Come to me for your jewelry and hair accessories and baby blankets and crayon roll ups and other such stuff.

Anyway, it was really fun, thanks Sarah, for putting on such a great and practical event!

  1. I gave you a purple skirt? What did it look like? I can’t remember it at all. Glad you made a buck off of it though. I expect to get a $1 birthday present this year (just to make things even.) =)

    • Yep, it was a pale purple pencil shape with little dark purple flowers on it. It was really cute, I just never wore it. It looked good on the girl who bought it, I think she’ll get some use out of it. I’ll be brainstorming what kind of gift to send you with that dollar!
