Lacey Lovelies

I found a necklace I loved on Etsy the other day, so I thought I’d explore the other lacey lovelies available.

Etsy Musings…

So, I found this amazing paper with tiny vintage travel posters all over it, and I think it’s the last bit of inspiration I needed to get working on opening an Etsy store for the ever increasing amounts of jewelry I’ve made.  Cause this paper plus domino tiles plus hodge podge should make some amazing necklaces.  I also bought some skeleton key charms and some filagree items that I think will make charming jewelry.  Anyway, that’s what’s on my mind today.

This is front page news:

We’re really cookin’ now
This will likely be a day like no other in Seattle. The National Weather Service calls for temperatures to reach 100 Wednesday and Thursday. That would equal the hottest day ever recorded here.

Seattle PI

Seattle has never, in it’s recorded history, reached over 100 degrees.  Today, we make a new record.  My Californian friends may scoff, but bear in mind…this is a region without AC.  Houses do not come equipped with AC.  Apartments do not come equipped with AC.  And, thanks to a bill passed by our local government, many apartment complex pools have been shut down.  Many people don’t have cars with AC (it’s only needed a few weeks of a normal year – this is not a normal year.)  So, if you want to cool down, here are your options:

1. Go to a movie theater

2. Go to Target

Also, do not use your oven.  That will take your ninety degree house to 1 billion degrees in a nano second.  Using your microwave is only acceptable if it’s the only way to eat.

Tim has a travel alarm clock that is also a thermometer.  He left it in our little bathroom for about 9 hours and it read 90 degrees.  This morning I took a luke warm shower, and almost passed out while putting on my contacts, because the moist heat of the shower mixed with the stagnant heat of the bathroom made it similar to a sauna in there.  I couldn’t bear the thought of blasting hot air on my head, so my hair is in the shortest ponytail ever, rather than going through the usual dry and straighten routine.

Thankfully, Tim convinced me that a portable air conditioning unit from Costco would be a good investment in May, so we can sleep through the night in relative comfort, if it is aimed directly at us.  We can also push it into our little living room for the evenings, and make it tolerable in there.

But, because of the heat, as well as the opportunity to have a date night, Tim and I sought refuge at the sticky foot movie theater last night.  We saw the Wolverine movie, and were pretty entertained, and very cold.  I think it was probably about 65 in that little theater.  Tim works tonight, so I’m crossing my fingers that my dad has finished Harry Potter book 6 and we can bask in the coolness of a different movie theater enjoying the AC as well as the movie (this was my favorite HP book, so I have high hopes for this movie).  Hope everyone is staying cool!

Clothes Swap

Last night I attended a clothing swap at Sarah‘s.  It was not what I expected.  I was picturing a cross between a garage sale and and thrift store, which in essence it was, but it was so fun.  We got there, set up the stuff we wanted to part with and dug through others for stuff we wanted to buy or trade.  Let me tell you, I made out pretty well.  My winnings:

Banana Republic white eyelet button down shirt – $3

Pink tweed clutch with bronze strap – trade for some earrings I’d made

White skirt with ribbon lining – $1

Mother and Son link necklace with silver pendant – trade for a bird necklace I’d made

Vintage brooch earrings – free cause they need a little fixing

Pair of 7 for All Mankind jeans – free.  What?  That’s right, free.

Total cost: $4

I got rid of:

AE rose bud shirt from college – $1.  (I love this shirt, but when boxy went out of style, it was time to give it up.  A girl a bit shorter than myself got it, so the boxiness shouldn’t be an issue.)

Turquoise J Crew Polo – $1

AE Jeans – $1

Earrings I made – $1

Purple skirt I got as a hand me down from Ashley – $1 (is it bad I made a profit?)

Tree necklace I made – $1

And I gave away three more pairs of earrings, the bird necklace, a silver pendant necklace…maybe a beaded one, I can’t remember, that I’d made.

Total earnings: $5

I came out better than when I went in.  And, Sarah is taking the remaining stuff to Goodwill, so I didn’t have to haul the stuff that didn’t go home with me.  Yay!

Also, I learned that my jewelry is liked by the general population…toying with an Etsy store idea.  The problem is narrowing down what I would put in it.  Maybe I won’t narrow it down.  Maybe I’ll be a jack of all trades.  Come to me for your jewelry and hair accessories and baby blankets and crayon roll ups and other such stuff.

Anyway, it was really fun, thanks Sarah, for putting on such a great and practical event!

I realize this is way after the fact…

The inside:

If you can’t read what he asked Chie to write, it is this:

Aunti Erin

Happy birthday.  I love you so much.  I like playing with you.  You are kind to me.  I like your haircut.  I like spending a night at your house.  Next time I want to stay at your house.

Love,

Mitsuki

After I finished reading this outloud he said, “and it says I want to eat big bread with you, and have bacon and read a book and watch Pirates (who don’t do anything), and…”  the big bread was in reference to the loaves lining the walls at Panera where we were having lunch.  He reeeeaaallly wanted one to himself.  He had to settle on sharing a baguette with Chie.  He’s so cute.  I like him.

Chris and Michelle’s Wedding

We got to know Chris and Michelle through our community group.  Chris was leading, and Michelle joined our group after her own group split.  We’ve really enjoyed getting to know them, so it was really fun to be apart of their day and be able to help with things leading up to it.

Dream a Little Dream of Hank

So, I’ve been checking Made By Hank constantly since Tim said I could get a shoulder bag (except I managed to miss the one time she posted them, and they sold out instantly.)  I’ve been checking it so much that my brain can’t let it go when I’m asleep.  I have literally had dreams about Made By Hank purses at least three times this week.  Once I dreamed she posted a bunch and I had to get up in the middle of the night to buy one.  Ironically that was the morning I discovered she had posted a bunch and they sold out.  I should have listened to my dream and gone online.  Then, the other night I dreamed that I went to a craft fair that she was at, and I put two orange round bags (why orange?  Why round?) in my Etsy cart (you still had to pay for them through Etsyeven though they were physically in front of you) while I decided between them so no one else would buy them.  Cause evidently I’m a cheater like that.  But, when Katie Henry saw they were in my cart she moved on to selling other stuff, and I had two bags even though I’d only paid for one.  I woke up feeling horribly guilty.  And weird, because somewhere in the dream I was also being stalked by a very short man.

That said, I sure hope I can get one soon and put my mind at ease.  These dreams are getting weirder and weirder.

Who knows, maybe Frances Houseman (Katie’s dog) will show up in the next one…

Phone calls and Spiders

Tim called me while on his lunch break to chat.  So, there we were, mindlessly chatting, me trying to explain the Lovely Packages, him listening politely, when along came a spider.  A little black spider with yellow stripes on his butt.  I watched him progress along the shelf above my desk with no plans to end his little life as long as he didn’t come closer.  But he couldn’t leave well enough alone, could he?  As he got closer, I alerted Tim of his presence:

Me: There’s a spider on my desk, will you come kill it?

Tim:  No.  You kill it.

Me (watching as it jumped from my shelf onto my computer with extreme agility): I can’t kill it.

Tim: Why?

Me: I’m scared.  It’ll eat me.

Tim: It won’t eat you.

Me: It’ll jump on me and eat me.

Tim: Spiders don’t jump.

Me: This one just jumped from my shelf to my computer.  About 6 inches.

Tim: So that spider jumps…

Me: I have to go.

Tim: Kill the spider.

Me: You kill it, I’m scared.

Tim: Just kill it.

Me: I have to go.  I’m going to go pull files.

Tim: But you’re talking to me.

Me: I have to go now.

I hung up and ran for the file room.  Then I came back and looked for the vicious thing, found it was on my cubical wall, and worked as far away from it as possible.  Then Tami came over and killed it for me.  Phew.  Now I just have guts to deal with.  I can do that.

New Stuff!

My dad took me out shopping for my birthday.  We hit Michael’s and Joann’s and I picked out some beads, then we went to Bellevue Square.  We visited Tim, who was working at Martin and Osa, where I picked up this beauty:

Originally $120, I got it for $50

Originally $120, I got it for $50

in this color:

which I will debut at Chris and Michelle’s wedding this weekend.

Tim has also brought me home a few presents from M+O since he started working there:

and…

1760_2857_614

This skirt is so super cute.  It was an online return, the only one in the store, seriously cheap, and my size.  Tim paid about $15 for it.  Yay!

Anyway, Dad and I went to J Crew, and looked for ways to spend the gift card Mike and Julann gave me, but I had left it at home, so that will happen another day.  Then to GAP, where I came away with:

gp655056-00p01v01

then we went to Specialties for dinner, where we discovered that the mall closed at 7.  So, we went home, and I was told that I still had more to cash in!  I am spoiled.  There’s no two ways about it.

Reasons I can’t be friends with Jack Bauer

As Tim and I have slowly made our way through 6 full days with Jack Bauer, I have come to this conclusion.  As awesome as I think he is, as much as I admire his devotion to this country, and stand in awe of his ability to move at warp speed for 24 hour stretches, he and I (and anyone I know, for that matter), must never be friends.

You might be thinking, “Why?  Why would you give up a great friendship like that of Jack Bauer?”

Because, quite simply, I would then have to die.  I’ve studied pretty carefully, and I’m pretty certain that anyone who gets to close to Jack Bauer meets a terrible and horrible death by terrorists, or radiation, or Nina, or Jack himself.

The only people who seem to excape this curse are (with a few exceptions) abysmal characters to begin with.  Take, for example, Kim.  Ugh.  So far, season 6 has been Kim free, and I am so glad.  (Secretly we root for the bad guys when they have Kim in their possession.)  Her stupidity and selfishness seem to have safe guarded her from much more than a car accident and running a lot.  Oh, and breaking up with a lot of guys.  Where was I going with this?

Um, anyway, so based on Jack’s track record losing everyone in his life (but Kim), no matter how loose the connection, should he try to friend me on facebook (if I was on facebook) or call me up, or show up at my door, I would have to ignore him.  For safety’s sake.

It’s only wise.
